Olap/xmla warmup script

Hello,

We are using xmla connection to ssas 2008.  when a user first open the workspace it takes a very long time.

Is there a way to improve the performance?

1) warmup script for xmla server to cache query?

2) bypass the security check with blank user/pass.  (We notice this on 3.1 if we grant cube access to everyone)

Error when bringing BEx Hierarchy into OLAP Analysis

Hi everyone,

I am using SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 2 and Using IE 9.

I have a number of different hierarchy's on a variety of characteristics in Bex. When I drag / drop any of these into an OLAP Analysis Workspace I get this error

Hierarchy error.png

If you drag the hierarchy in again it generally works but OLAP Analysis behavior goes a bit skewy after that.

The hierarchies work perfectly in BO Analysis for MS Office & BEx.

I get a similar message in Chrome so I don't beleive its browser related.

Any suggestions welcome!

With thanks

Gill

Analysis for OLAP 4.1

Hello,

I created some reports using Analysis for OLAP in BOBJ 4.1, and I had a few question.

1) I was not able to display repeated values for Char in the report output (but was able to get them when I download to excel), can we get them by default in the report output I.e. when we execute the report on the web / BI Launch pad.

2) Display result rows doesn't work as if work in Portal or BIO, if  we try to display the result row for a particular filed say "A", it by default displays the result for all the fields that are there after "A", i.e. B,C etc.

3) Also when we drag drop an filed in the report it doesn't adjust the filed size as it does in portal, the user have to manually adjust it after he places the filed in the report.

Do we know if there is a fix fro this problem or if SAP is planning something for it in the future?

Thanks in Advance.

Mahesh

Data-level restriction in BO Analysis Edition for OLAP

Hi. Our current reporting setup is using Microsoft Analysis Services for OLAP and another tool for the front end. We are currently using MSAS Roles to restrict the data the users can see (restrict users by country). We are migrating our front end tool to Business Objects Analysis Edition for OLAP. Is it possible to use the same data-level restriction in BO Analysis Edition for OLAP?

Analysis for OLAP is not saving with the BEx query

Hi experts,

I have a problem with Analysis for OLAP, this is the steps to explain:

1) On BI Launch Pad, create a new analysis document

2) Choose a BEx query

3) Select the variable's values

4) Ok, the report is on the screen, with with columns, lines and values...

5) Save this document on Favorites folder (for example)

6) Close the Analysis for OLAP

7) Go to Favorite folder and open the analysis document saved in previous steps

8) THE PROBLEM: Analysis for OLAP prompt again to select the BEx query.

This occur with some BEx, with other BEx queries the analysis only prompt the BEx variables.

I suspect that could be some permission issue, but I using a administrator user.

I'm working with BO 4.1 SP3 and BW 7.01

Thanks for all help!

Patterns in Selection Option Variables in Analysis for OLAP

$

Hello Experts,

My organization is in the process of moving from BEx Web Analyzer queries to Analysis for OLAP reports (we're on BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 2 Patch 3). We are using the pre-existing BEx queries as data providers which has worked well for the most part.

An issue we're running into involves variables of the Selection Option type. Many of our users have a vertical list of values for which they want to run a report. We have been teaching them to copy/paste values into Microsoft Word and use the Replace functionality to get them into a horizontal list separated by semicolons (100000001; 100000002; etc). Pasting these values into Analysis does not work the same as it did in BEx and I'm trying to find a similar workaround so we don't have to create a new variable and change over 50 pre-existing queries. Any ideas?

Display of Measure Format in Thousands as “K” in BO Analysis OLAP report

Hi All,

Some of our BO Analysis OLAP reports showing measure values in thousands as ‘K’ (Example:- 37851393.31 as 37,851 K). We can change format’s in “Display > Measure Format” option, but users don't want to use that. Where can we fix this issue?

Can we fix it in BO Analysis report level? Or we need to fix it at BW / BOBJ server level?

Display of Measure Format in Thousands as - K.JPG

We are using following versions of software’s.

ANALYSIS 1.4 SP 02

BOBJ 4.0 SPS 6 PATCH 2

BW 7.01 SPS 5

It will be helpful if anyone can share your thoughts on this issue.

Thanks in Advance,

I am having issues with Analysis OLAP

I am currently trying to test to see whether our current reports will work correctly in Analysis OLAP SAP BO 4.1 SP 4. At the moment there are a few glaring issues that I can see.

First, when I try and run an analysis for one of our comparison reports (i.e. Comparing 2013 data to 2014 data) 2/3 of the data for my 2013 year is missing along with data being placed in the incorrect line items.

Second, if I try and open the same data source on a second sheet to run an analysis I cannot change the prompts for the second sheet to be a different time period. (i.e. Sheet 1 has Data Source ABC for 2013, Sheet 2 has Data Source ABC, but when I try and run sheet 2 to show 2014 data Analysis OLAP changes sheet 1 to show 2014 data as well). Is there anyway to use the same datasource on two separate sheets and show two different times periods.

Thank You.

Sort Fiscal Month in Analysis Edition for OLAP

Hello all,

We are using Analysis edition for OLAP for Bex query as source and the tool doesn't sort the Fiscal Month as desired. When the query runs for the first time the data comes as in the order how it is shown in Bex query result. But as soon as the user drags OUT the Fiscal Month field for their analysis purpose and adds it back it NO longer maintains the Sort order for Fiscal Month. Is there a work around or a fix in any of the patches/releases?

We are on BO4.1 SP2 P6, Source: Bex Query (BW7.3 on HANA)

First run with screenshot showing correct sort order and incorrect sort order after remove/add back fiscal month.

Any pointers highly appreciated.

SAP BW Queries behave different Bex analyzer vs Analysis for OLAP

Platform:

SAP BW 7.01 SP7

SAP BO BI 4.0 SP4

Hello,

I have a BEX query which contains a hierarchy. This Query when executed with Bex Analyzer for either Web or Excel takes seconds to be executed. But when executed using Analysis for OLAP it takes about two minutes. (strangely enough it is always about 2 minutes).

When I look into BW while the run is being executed(refreshed) at Analysis for OLAP, I can see the system is doing a sequential read on a customer text table and it can be seen it takes around 2 minutes.

My question is why Analysis triggers this and not Bex Analyzer?

Other queries run perfectly fine, except for this with the hierarchy

I'll appreciate your comments!

BI Inbox/OpenDocument links - retain entered prompt values?

$

All of the reporting we are currently converting from Bex to Analysis for OLAP are being saved with "save prompt values" unchecked.

We were planning to train users to select the checkbox/send a report via BI Inbox if they wish to send others a report with particular variable selections.

This does not work unless the user makes some other change outside the prompt screen (even something as simple as changing totals display).

Going to the share menu and creating an OpenDocument link, I have noticed that the generated link returns the CUID of the original report if changes outside the prompt screen are not made, while if they are made, a new CUID is generated.  This seems to indicate that BOBJ is not registering prompt entries (when "save prompts" is selected) by themselves as "changes".

Does anyone have any suggestions that would allow users to select the "save prompt values" checkbox, enter their own prompts, and send to other users so that prompt entries are retained without having to make any other changes to the report?

We are on BOBJ 4.1 SP 2 Patch 3.

Thanks

Scott

Analysis for OLAP and BW restricted characteristics

$

Hi All,

Recently, when we were using Analysis for OLAP with BEx query OLAP connection then it was ignoring our input variables. It used the default values and displayed the result. However, we were able to fix it after a BW consultant (who was there luckily) suggested to move all restricted characteristics from default values to global area (Restricted Characteristics). Consultant also advised to remove restricted characteristics from default value after the move.

Now, what I really didn't understand that why did we do that? Is there an explanation for this that I can read? Shouldn't this slow down the query?

Your suggestions will be highly regarded.
