SSO configuration in multi-domain environment

$

Good morning,

we have a Business Object BI 4.0 Installation , SP4 Patch 6. Our requirement is to define Analysis OLAP views on SSAS2008 OLAP Connection with SSO authentication mode.

Users can belong to different domains, all in a single forest (example: main domain is MAINDOM.COM, there are IT.MAINDOM.COM, FR.MAINDOM.COM, GER.MAINDOM.COM, etc..).

We configured Active Directory SSO following SAP notes:

  • 1631734 - Configuring Active Directory Manual Authentication and SSO for BI4
  • 1688079 - Configuring BI4 Analysis Edition for OLAP for End-to-End SSO to MS SQL Server Analysis Services

We did following tests, all with positive results:

  • AD Users imported in BO environment using AD Plugin and visible in corresponding groups in CMC;
  • AD manual login using thick clients (IDT and Web Intelligence Rich Client);
  • KINIT test for users belong to different domains (MAINDOM.COM, IT.MAINDOM.COM, FR.MAINDOM.COM);
  • bsclogin.conf test (setting debug=true and verifying tomcat log);
  • Credentials obtained during start of Tomcat service ("jcsi.kerberos: ** Credentials obtained");
  • SSO (user enter in BI Launch pad without writing username/password) using a client connected with MAINDOM.COM and IT.MAINDOM.COM;
  • Access to OLAP application published via IIS (http:\\servername\OLAP\msmdpump.dll) using Excel or Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio;
  • Analysis OLAP View on a OLAP Connection with "prompt" authentication mode works correctly (user insert username and password while opening a view).

If we try to use a OLAP Connection with SSO, it is not possible to access SSAS cubes. Launching Analysis OLAP application and  selecting the connection, system goes in loop. We found following logs produced by MDAS server:

httpclient.wire.header||<< "WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate[\r][\n]"‑

httpclient.wire.header||<< "WWW-Authenticate: NTLM[\r][\n]"‑

httpclient.wire.header||<< "WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="DOM.COM"[\r][\n]"‑

httpclient.wire.content||<< "  <h2>401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.</h2>[\r][\n]"‑

httpclient.wire.content||<< "  <h3>You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.</h3>[\r][\n]"

...

org.apache.commons.httpclient.auth.AuthenticationException: Error establishing Kerberos security context (ODA10067)

...

Caused by: GSSException: No valid credentials provided (Mechanism level: Fail to create credential. (63) - No service creds)

...

Caused by: KrbException: Fail to create credential. (63) - No service creds

Few considerations follow:

  • Service account used for launching SIA and Tomcat belongs to DOM.COM domain. "BusinessObject Platform" server and "MS SSAS2008" server belong to a subdomain (IT.DOM.COM). I don't know is something could change defining Service Account on the same domain of BOBJ server.
  • I think that authentication type should be "Negotiate Kerberos" and not NTLM. It seems that a wrong authentication mode is used;
  • "Unauthorized" error should not occur, because the same user can login using Excel or via SS Management Studio (accessing the msmdpump.dll driver)

Could someone give me a hint about this situation? Could we do some other tests to verify the correctness of the configuration?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Dimensions Order in Data panel not same as in HANA Calc View

$

Hi,

We've created an OLAP Analysis report based on a Calculated HANA view.

Our problem is, the order in which the list of Dimensions that get displayed in Data panel on the left side of report is not in the same order as in Calc Hana view.

For e.g. in the attached image, Dimension Order is,

1. Dimension 2

2. Dimension 1

3. Dimension 4

4. Dimension 3

But the actual order in HANA view is,

1. Dimension 1

2. Dimension 2

3. Dimension 3

4. Dimension 4

Could you please let us know if it is expected in OLAP Analysis to show the order differently than that of Hana view. Is there a way we can re-arrange the Dimension order in Data panel.

Thanks in Advance!

Thanks and Regards,

Ram

BO favourite report KO after a BEX querie update

Hello,

Since I added a new selection in BEX querie rows structure, users can't use anymore their reports using this querie.

When they try to execute it, nothing happens.

15-07-2014 10-06-33.png

They just have a internet explorer message (see in attachment).

But the report in the "official" folder (suported by IT team) works well after I transported BEX querie and promoted Web Analysis for Olap report.

We use :

-BW 7.31 SP9

-BEX query designer SP 0 Revision 681

-BI 4.1 SP2 patch 6

this is veryannoying becauseusers no longerhaveconfidence inBO

Does anyone have this problem and if yes what is the solution ?

Thanks in advance

Nicolas

Sort in Olap for Analysis based on Bex queries

$

Hello,

We are using Analysis workspace report (OLAP for analysis) based on bex queries.

We can NOT modify the sort by default imposed by OLAP for analysis, at navigation tab and cross table tab.

1) On the navigation tab : OLAP displays the bex objects using automatcally a sort by decription.
We would like modify this bex objects displaying (by grouping date axes at the first, then organisaion axes....).

2) When we add an object to the cross tab (result), OLAP uses automatically a sort by text (on the values).
We would like using rather that a sort by keys. In other words, we don't like having to do the sort by key after each new navigation.

Do you have any idea to resolve that ?

Thx a lot.

Bo version :  4.1 Support Pack 4 Patch 4
BW version : SAPKW74009.

Desending sort order for prompt dropdown list within Analysis for OLAP?

$

I have an Analysis for OLAP report that uses a HANA calculation view as its data source. A variable is defined within the calculation view to prompt the user to select a value; the values for this variable come from another calculation view.

When the report is opened and the dropdown button is pressed within the Prompts window, the list of values from the variable definition are displayed in ascending order. Is it possible to have the values displayed in descending order? I don't see a means to specify that -- in either the calculation view nor within Analysis for OLAP.

Analysis Workspace Error after BO 4.1 Upgrade

Hey @ all,

after a Upgrade von BO 4.0 to  BO 4.1 we get an error for only one Analysis OLAP Workspace.

Analysis, Edition für OLAP, hat um 8:59 PM eine unerwartete Ausnahme festgestellt und musste geschlossen werden.

"

Analysis, edition for OLAP encountered an unexpected exception at 9:17 PM that has caused it to close.

The following reasons may have caused the unexpected exception:

•Analysis, edition for OLAP has timed out. Your workspace may have been automatically saved to your Favorites folder as an "autosave" file.

•A fatal exception has occurred. Log on again to Analysis, edition for OLAP.

If you repeatedly see this error, contact your administrator."

We only get this error for one OLAP Report. All other Analysis for OLAP reports are working fine.

In Logging we only get errors in the CMS Service:

How suppress criteria tabs when exporting reports to Excel?

$

My users have many AOLAP reports that use HANA calculation views as their data source. When these users export the reports to Excel, the resulting Excel file contains twice as many tabs as are present on the reports. For each tab on the AOLAP report, the Excel file contains an accompanying tab with a "+" suffix in the tab name (e.g., "Customers", "Customers+", "Vendors", "Vendors+", etc.); this accompanying tab lists the criteria (e.g., start date, end date, etc.) the user selected upon loading the report. Is there a way to suppress these criteria tabs...or perhaps include only one such tab, since the criteria is the same for the entire report and, therefore, doesn't need to be repeated for every tab?

Also, the 'Export to XLSX' dialog box that appears when the user presses the 'Export to Excel' button is confusing:

  • It displays the names of all the tabs in the report twice, in a parent/child relationship. When either the parent or child checkbox is selected or de-selected, the child or parent is also selected or de-selected. What is the purpose of this?
  • Selecting or de-selecting the 'Repeat outer header members' checkbox doesn't seem to have any effect upon the resulting export....or the selection and de-selection described above. What is its purpose?

Excel error Downloading Workspace with Infinity Symbol

Does anyone know how get around downloading  a workspace to excel with an Infinity symbol?  Screen shot below is the error message with the infinity symbol on the Margin % column.  I can modify the cube to have zero values in the measure but the change to the cube would result in a very large report with lots of zero records which I am trying to avoid. I can also download the workspace as a csv but I then lose all the formatting of the report.

Currently running: SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 2 Patch 2 Version: 14.1.2.1195

2008 MDAS database.

Merge Prompts - SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 1

Our OLAP View has 3 sheets, each out of different query from a common cube connnection.

All the 3 queries has exactly same input variables.

From Promt merge functionality, could we expect user to enter the variable just once for all the 3 sheets?

Now, clicking on each sheets - prompts user each time.

Observation:

Clicking on merge prompt in the prompt screen changes the name of the connection to "SAP Netweaver Business Warehouse"

Any help is highly appreciated

Hi,

Version: BI 4.0 SP8.3 with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

When you receive the following warning message, what is the single best method to find out exactly what members are missing?:

Analysis edition for OLAP could not find one or more members in this analysis, possibly because the cube has been updated. The hierarchy containing these members has been removed to allow the analysis to be executed.
