Analysis for Office / OLAP and universes

Hi

I have a question: I read that Analysis cannot use universes as datasource.

We have SAP BW and another non-SAP DWH, both dataprovider should be combined into a BO report. How can we use both dataprovider in Analysis for Office/OLAP if we cannot use a universe?

Thank you.

Display of Measure Format in Thousands as “K” in BO Analysis OLAP report

Hi All,

Some of our BO Analysis OLAP reports showing measure values in thousands as ‘K’ (Example:- 37851393.31 as 37,851 K). We can change format’s in “Display > Measure Format” option, but users don't want to use that. Where can we fix this issue?

Can we fix it in BO Analysis report level? Or we need to fix it at BW / BOBJ server level?

Display of Measure Format in Thousands as - K.JPG

We are using following versions of software’s.

ANALYSIS 1.4 SP 02

BOBJ 4.0 SPS 6 PATCH 2

BW 7.01 SPS 5

It will be helpful if anyone can share your thoughts on this issue.

Thanks in Advance,

Saved report layouts reverting back to default view

$

Hi,

I would like to know what can cause a saved (pre-existing) A-OLAP report to lose its customized layout and revert back to the default view of its underlying BEx query.  Our BI A-OLAP uses BEx queries as data-sources, connecting to them via BICS. Platform version: BI 4.0.5.1

Every so often we receive user complaints that they have lost the customized layout of their saved reports.

1. What Bex query property settings, in query designer and in BW, can affect pre-existing OLAP Analysis Workspaces?

2. What changes (within an A-OLAP workspace or in BI, Bex, BW, CMC etc.,) can make an AOLAP report layout revert back to default view?

Thanks

Time to Migrate Bex Web to Olap for Analysis. Now what? How to manage content and what about about Portal Role Menus (PFCG) vs BI Launch Pad

At BI2013 conferennce today, Thierry Adus from SAP gave a really good presentation on Olap for Analysis SP05 and he may have me convinced that now is the time to begin planning on moving from Bex Web to Olap for Analysis with BI 4 SP05.

Especially once there is a replacement for Bex broadcaster, mentioned to be coming in late 2013, we are ready to start the process of migrating our Bex web reports to Olap for Analysis.

However I remain reluctant giving Olap for analysis to casual users that are finally are comfortable with bex web after 5 years.  And it is not prtactical or possible to replace all bex reports with webis.Thought I would post this topic to see if you might offer any experiences and suggestions for migrating Bex web reports to BI Olap for Analysis and how you manage the transition from Enterprise Portal Roles to BI Launch Pad.

(1) What was the best process to take Bex reports to Olap for Analysis?  We have several  hundreds....

Is it as simple as opening the Bex query in Analysis for Olap client?

(2) But...We also use the enterprise portal and publish to roles (PFCG) which we currently import to EP for menus for different business groups.  A query could be published to multiple roles. How do we manage this for bi launch pad?   Trying to retain similar portal role authorizations (list of reports) and avoid duplicating the documents in BI Launch Pad?  One thought is create a webi with a list of of olap for analysis as hyerplinks, but complaints are webi is too slow to open.  Guess could do same with design studio, but really miss the idea of Bex query designer publish to role, import role to portal as workset, add workset to portal role as delta link. Done, then each time we transport PFCG role change in BW ABAP, the portal role is updated automatically.

I fear managing contnent in bi launch pad is a great deal of maintenannce.  So - question how do we manage the content?  I am not comfortable just giving casual users olap for analysis and have them open and search for the report.  They just wont do it.

(3) I learned that the mobile client for Analysis is Design Studio and in May release  will have function to save an anlysis view as a Design studio application, which can run on IOS as of BI Mobile 4.4. and BI 4 SP05.  I guess it is a manual effort to open every Bex report in olap for analysis, save as design app, then open in designer and verify/adjust,  publish as design html5 doc, assign folder categories and mobile category?  Expect to invest some time here...

I realize another long bloggish discussion, but geeked out on the great presentation by Thierry today!

Appreciate your thoughts and experiences.  I will share as I work through it and find out more.

Analysis - HANA Connection - IDT

HI,

I want to make a table in HANA available in BO Analysis for OLAP. I have created a Connection with New JDBC connection in the IDT (information design tool) and published the original relational & the secured connection created to the the BO server. (The connection test in IDT was a success).

If I check the connection in CMC, I am able to see the connections. But when I login to launchpad and open up Analysis for OLAP, none of the HANA connections are visible. (I am logging in with Admin/Full access).

Is there any additional publish activity to be done or is this a limitation of OLAP Analysi?

Thanks & Regards,

Language Translation in AOLAP

Hi,

We have a requirement of performing language translation basd on the user's login id. Is it possible in AOLAP? I tried to change the Product Locale and Preferred Viewing Locale to non-english language. What i found was, only the tool related words were translated but the content of the report was not translated. We have source as BEX query and the Language pack is installed in BW/BEX side.

Please let me know the steps to be followed in order to acheive this.

Analysis OLAP & QUERY TOO LARGE

Hi all,

I'm using SAP BO Analysis OLAP Edition on a MSAS cube. When I drill on some dimensions I receive the following message:

THE REQUEST OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED BECAUSE THE QUERY IS TOO LARGE

Anybody faced this problem? I'd like to know the limits of SAP BO Analysis tool (if exists) and some ways to solve this issues. On these dimensions it seems also impossible to set filters (system is very slow and doesn't arrive to show the list of values).

Thanks for the support!

Add Time Stamp / Watermark in a Analysis OLAP report

Hi,

I am trying to figure out if I can add a time stamp like (last refresh date & time just like we have in a webi report) in a Analysis OLAP report.
I am also trying to add background image (like a watermark as Confidential / Draft) in my OLAP report or even if I can add it anywhere in the OLAP report I am ok with that.

Has anyone done this before & can shed some information on how to do it, it will be very much helpful.

SAP BI 4.1 Sp1 Analysis for OLAP RRI

Hello,

I was under the impression the "Go To" functionality would start working from BI 4.1.

The option appears when i use a BEx query that currently has a jump build in but I get 2 different error messages.

AOLAP.JPG

But when I click on it I get different errors.

  1. With 2 Web Template/HTML target report: P_QYYVCA01_C_FSSR026_015A

Error 1.JPG

This one gives a very unhelpful error message ;-)

2. With Query target report: P_QYWFFI0140_MIFSSR006_001 link to P_QYWFFI0140_MIFSSR006_003

error 2.JPG

Error message gives a clue but surely it is not expecting a BICS connection? I am using a system BW connection so it has access to the BW query and the Go To sees the report as it offers it as an option.

Thanks a lot

How To Automatically Not Display the All Level for All Dimensions

$

Hi,

We are using BI4.0 SP6. Is there a way, by default, to have all dimensions not display the All level automatically?:

2-13-2014 4-45-20 PM.png

I know we can right-click on a dimension and then choose Show levels > (All) to un-check the level, but our business partners do not want to have to do that every time they add a dimension to a row/column. They just want the level automatically removed from all dimensions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Michael

How can't I export the extra sheet with prompts values , when i export to excel in BO 4.1 Sp2

Hi

The new feature in BO 4.1  SP2  Analysis Edition for OLAP ,  when you export to excel and new extra sheet become with the excel;

looking in SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for OLAP User Guide  it says this

"

19.1 Exporting data to excel

For each analysis that has prompt values associated with it, a separate sheet is added to the Excel

workbook to display the prompt values."

I look in aplication and Adatative Process Server, in User Profile , in WorkSpace , in order to avoid to export the extra sheet but there is nothing about.

It´s possible to avoid to export the extra sheet with prompt values?

Where can  I modify  In BO to do that?

I want to be able to filter my chart in PowerPoint that I inserted from Excel.

In PowerPoint the Filter option is disabled!

What are the cases when the filter option is not available??

Subtotals

In Business Objects Analysis you can turn "on" or "off" subtotals.  This turns the subtotals "on" or "off" for all of the characteristics in the report.  The business only want's subtotals are specific levels (like the OLD BEX could do).    I have not found a way to do this.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  If it is NOT possible does anyone know if it will be possible in a future release of Business Object Analysis.

Error with Selecting a Date for a BEx Variable in Analysis OLAP

$

0

I'm using Analysis OLAP with a BEx Query that has a mandatory date variable.  It will only let me pick certain dates for this variable.  Since I'm in the US, I read dates, MM-DD-YYYY.  Apparently, Analysis OLAP does YYYYMMDD regardless of the back end formatting in BI 4.0 SP 4.  I can pick dates up to the 12th of the month, since A-OLAP thinks that is month 12.  I don't have this issue with the exact same query using Analysis Office, WebI, or BEx (via RSRT).

Date 08/22/2013 doesn't work...

Image-0072.png

Date 08/10/2013 works...

Image-0073.png

I checked the SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for OLAP User Guide (for BI 4.0 SP5).  On page 126, it states...

"When you connect to an SAP BW data source, the format for displaying dates in the analysis window is

determined by a setting on the SAP BW server for the user profile that you used to connect to the data source."

Also, it notes, "Analysis requires that all prompt values in the Prompts dialog box be entered in the format

yyyymmdd. Dates in the Prompts dialog box are always displayed in this format, and you must follow this

format when manually typing values for date prompts."

Fair enough, I can enter the date in a different format...however, there's more.  If you are on BI 4.0 SP 4 Patch 0, the user account users for the OLAP connection on the BW backend must be set to...YYYY-MM-DD in SU01.  Given, that I'm in the US, the isn't a productive scenario.

Image-0079.png

Here are a few relevant SAP notes...

1761780 - Cannot enter a date value in USA format [mm/dd/yyyy] when SSO authentication is used in an Analysis edition for OLAP workspace against an SAP BW source

This note mentions ADAPT01662017 which is part of SP 05.

1832395 - Changes in the user specific date format in SAP BW are not getting reflected in existing Analysis edition for OLAP workspace prompts.

1879223 - In Analysis Edition for OLAP format for date prompt is yyyyMMdd when selecting from calendar

ADAPT01662017 (Available in BI 4.0 SP 5 - see release notes)

Description

In Analysis, edition for OLAP, when you connect to an SAP BW data source with a date prompt that has a

default value, the date format for the SAP BW server is applied to the default prompt value. However,

Analysis only accepts date prompts that have the format yyyymmdd.

If the date format for the SAP BW server does not match the yyyymmdd format, you will not be able to specify

valid dates for date prompts with default values.

New Behavior

This problem is resolved. The “Prompts” dialog box formats default values for date prompts as

yyyymmdd regardless of the date format setting for the SAP BW server.

The date format that you specified for the SAP BW server still applies to dates in the analysis window.

See the fixed issue note for ADAPT01637226 for more information.

So, I would LOVE to upgrade to SP 5, but I cant in the next few days to solve this issue.  Anyone have a suggestion as to how to deal with this in Analysis OLAP and stay on BI 4.0 SP 4?

Thanks for taking a look!
